The NPORS Novice Telehandler Course is designed for individuals with little or no prior experience operating telescopic handlers. This comprehensive training programme equips candidates with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely and competently operate a telehandler in line with industry standards and legal requirements.

Please note: We currently deliver this course as onsite training and testing only — meaning candidates must be assessed at your workplace using your own equipment. This allows training to be tailored to the specific environment, conditions, and types of tasks the operators will face.

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for novice operators who require formal training to operate a telehandler safely and legally in a construction, agricultural, or industrial setting.

Course Duration

  • 5 Days (including theory, practical training, and NPORS assessment)

Course Content

  • Introduction to the telehandler and its components

  • Health & Safety legislation and operator responsibilities

  • Pre-use checks and basic maintenance

  • Safe operation, loading and unloading

  • Manoeuvring and positioning the telehandler

  • Working with different types of loads

  • Awareness of site hazards, including pedestrians and overhead obstacles

  • Safe use on slopes and rough terrain

  • Environmental considerations

  • End-of-shift checks and maintenance

  • NPORS practical and theory assessments

Assessment

At the end of the course, candidates will complete:

  • Theory test (covering legislation, safety, and operational knowledge)

  • Practical assessment (demonstrating safe operation and control of the telehandler)

Certification

On successful completion, candidates will receive:

  • NPORS Operator Card – Telescopic Handler (N010) This can be issued as either a Traditional NPORS Card or an NPORS CSCS Operator Card, depending on the employer’s or candidate’s requirements.

Entry Requirements

  • Candidates must be at least 16 years old

  • Good understanding of spoken and written English

  • No prior experience required

  • The assessment must take place onsite at your premises using your telehandler
